Big Win For AP CM

Kiran Kumar Reddy wins biggest battle

The 375-day-old government of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy won the no-trust vote brought by Telugu Desam at 1.20 am on Tuesday.
The vote was defeated by a margin of 160:122. The 17-member Praja Rajyam and the six legislators of the Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen voted against the motion and bailed out the government.
Beaming after his victory, the Chief Minister said, “We have proved our strength again and we will come back in 2014 with greater vigour.”
One major outcome of the vote is that the Congress party strength, as far as the Assembly records are concerned, is reduced from 154 to 136 (including one nominated member), nine below the half-way mark of 145 in the House of 288, which is the current strength. Sixteen Congress MLAs supporting Kadapa MP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy violated the party whip and crossed the floor to vote in favour of the motion.
It is now for the Congress Legislature Party to petition with Speaker seeking disqualication of their membership from the House within 15 days of the voting.
It is a foregone conclusion that all the rebel legislators will lose their membership which will lead to byelections in all those seats, along with the seven seats which are already declared vacant. The rebel MLAs who voted in favour of the motion were:
Dharmana Krishna Das; Golla Babu Rao; Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose; Terlam Balaraju; M. Prasada Raju; D. Sucharita; P. Ramakrishna Reddy; B. Srinivasulu Reddy; Mekapati Chandrasek-har Reddy (all Congress); Other Congress rebels A. Amarnadh Reddy; G. Srikanth Reddy; G. Srinivasulu; B. Gurnadha Reddy; Kapu Ramachandra Reddy; Chenna Kesava Reddy; Konda Surekha. Sobha Nagireddy of the Praja Rajyam and Y. Balanagireddy of the Telugu Desam also voted with the motion.
